Every Banshee has a fated wail. It's an important rite of passage for every young banshee to hear the name of the person they will ferry into the afterlife. Any who don’t will face The Curse, i.e. continuing on as a specter trapped in this world. No Pressure. Unfortunately for Jessica Hardgraves, when her future is within her clawed hands, she's told she wails for no one. Panicked and alone, she makes up the perfect hero to be her fated wail so her parents never have to worry that she'll end up a ghost. Forever. Left eye yellow and the right is blue, Ironjaw, they call him.

Fast forward 15 years and Ivan 'Ironjaw' Skullcrusher is done with revenge. Hanging up his hammer and shield, he's ready for the good life. A restaurant in his dead parent’s honor sounds perfect for him and his crew of justice slinging adventurers. Only hitch is they don't know anything about running a business. Whipping up a good meal? Sure! But business permits? You wish.

Thankfully for him, a night off at the city fairgrounds runs him into a certain birthday girl banshee. With her nosy, opinionated family breathing down her neck and her secret on the verge of exposure, the two strike a deal. Her business major knowledge and Ivan's magical cooking skills combined, they might just succeed. And so long as he keeps up appearances, her family will go on thinking they are star crossed lovers. But danger threatens to rip the restaurant and Jessica's family apart. Is this just a fake-fated-mate story gone wrong? Or can Jessica finally find her happily ever after before the final banshee sings?
